Welcome to Mossburn Pirates Rugby Club
The Mossburn Rugby Club was formed in 1920. In 1989, the Club joined forces with Country Pirates and became known as Mossburn Pirates. The club is made up of a group of dedicated players, volunteers and supporters who participate in the Southland-wide competition during the winter months. In 2020, the club celebrates its centennial.

About Us
When Mossburn Rugby first formed, Mick Cournane was the team mascot. Mick continued on from there to be a player and is the longest serving President of the club at 25 years. He then continued on to be a life member and staunch supporter.

Life members of the club include: Mick Cournane, Colin Boyd, Peter Currie, Ian Taylor, Isaac Campbell, Gerald Coghlan, Dave Fairbairn, Geoff Stevens, Bruce Taylor, Rex Carter and Peter Turner.

For the 2019 season the club had five teams: one rippa (learning rugby) team, year 3 and 4 tackle, year 5 and 6 tackle, a womens team known as the Northern Southland Transport Mossburn HInds and a senior team known as the Northern Southland Transport Mossburn Stags. In 2019 the Mossburn Stags were winners of the Speights Shield and the Division 1 Gerald Dermody Shield.
